Colne Cycling Campaign
Campaigning We've campaigned to improve cycle routes in Pendle. We successfully lobbied the council to support plans to upgrade footpaths to bridleways between Wycoller and Laneshawbridge, contributed to the council's Cycling Strategy, helped promote cycling in Pendle by helping devise a 35-mile Grand Tour of Pendle. We've bid for funding to install millennium milepost waymarkers on the section of the Pennine Cycleway passing through Pendle. Stands for cycle parking are beginning to appear around Colne. New stands have been installed opposite the Market Hall and opposite the Yorkshire Bank. We've also organised the installation of stands at two pubs so far, the Lord Rodney (in Colne) and the Red Lion in Earby, so you can park safely.
Promoting cycling We were awarded a lottery grant to run a cycling promotion day during national Bike Week. It took place on Saturday 23 June. More details here.
Ride with CCC! As well as promoting cycling facilities in the area, we lead rides too! Aimed at novices and families, but a bit of fun for everyone, we are again leading rides as part of the Pendle Cycling Festival's series of rides. In 2007 CCC is once more leading rides on 17 June (as part of Bike Week 2007), 15 July and 19 August, as part of the festival freedom rides and a programme of guided rides across Lancashire coordinated by the County Council. Last year we also organised a more challenging ride to launch the Grand Tour of Pendle route. Details of the Festival are here. |
